State-owned Chinese bulker specialist Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding Heavy Industry is breaking into the tanker market — constructing two 115,000-dwt long-range-two (LR2) newbuildings for a Singapore-based shipowner.
Sources say Cara Shipping is converting two of its three 180,000-dwt capesizes on order at the yard into LR2 newbuildings. The company did not manage to switch all three, as one of the units — to be named Stella Lucy — is close to completion and is slated for delivery at the end of this year.
