Tsakos Energy Navigation (TEN) undertook three mass rescues of migrants off the Libyan coast in the summer and autumn of 2014.
On 27 August, TEN’s aframax tanker Proteas rescued 221 migrants. Weeks later, on 3 October, the handysize medium-range tanker Arion picked up 167 people, and a month after that the 37,000-dwt sister ship Byzantion took on board a total of 230 people from two different boats.
