South Korean owner HMM is working with leading domestic equipment supplier Panasia to develop carbon-capture technology for its ships.
The shipping company said the memorandum of understanding will start with a feasibility study and then progress to operational tests.
HMM views the technique as having the potential to play a significant role in reducing CO2 emissions.
