The Dutch Vroon group has succeeded in a refund guarantee dispute with a South Korean bank and insurance company over a newbuilding order that went badly wrong.

The dispute has been before London high court judge Justice Blair who has ruled in favour of a $9.4m claim bought by three Vroon subsidiaries.

Tempted by an attractive $15.15m per ship offer for small tankers Vroon ordered four 6,100-dwt bitumen carriers in December 2006 with options for a further two, later extended to four.

Iver Bitumen, the one ship in the deal to float.
