A constant trickle of LPG-fuelled VLGC newbuilding orders have been stacking up at shipyards in South Korea and China over the past few months, amid talk the market could be facing a deficit of capacity in what promises to be a buoyant year for the sector.
Newbuilding brokers said the fuelling choice for VLGCs and even some midsize LPG carriers is clearer than for other sectors, with LPG proving “a no brainer” for meeting current and futureemissions reduction targets.
