Two-month tanker crisis would leave Australia ‘without fuel’

A major conflict in the South China Sea would threaten tanker shipping routes supplying 90% of Australia’s refined fuel imports, according to a study commissioned by the country’s defence ministry.

With little of its own refinery capacity, Australia imports most of its products from Southeast Asia and the trade would be affected by a growing military crisis, according to the study reported in The Conversation on Monday.
