Barely a weekend after being reported as circulating for sale, a 20-year old VLCC of Greece’s Eastern Mediterranean Maritime (Eastmed) found a willing buyer at a price scaling new heights in the red-hot secondhand market for large tankers.
Managers at the Thanassis Martinos-led company confirmed disposing of the Hitachi-built tanker for $30m. They did not identify the buyer. Brokers reported the vessel as open in India from 3 May, when it would be available for charter-free delivery.
