The government of Tuvalu has warned of a website offering “fraudulent” shipping services in the name of the tiny South Pacific island, in the latest alarm over the growing trend of fake registries and phantom ship operations.
Tuvalu’s transport ministry wrote to the International Maritime Organization to warn that the apparent island-based operation was an “attempt to commit fraudulent activities” as it had outsourced its registry services to Singapore two decades ago.
