Trader and shipowner Trafigura has teamed up with producer Braskem to carry what is claimed to be the first shipment of naphtha to have its carbon emissions offset.
The 325,000-barrel cargo was carried from Corpus Christi in Texas to Braskem's facility in Aratu, Brazil.
The CO2-equivalent emissions associated with the extraction and pipeline transport of crude oil, its processing to produce naphtha and its ocean carriage were calculated by Trafigura.
