China’s Shandong Landbridge is likely to deploy three 310,000-dwt tankers ordered at Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co (DSIC) to import crude oil into the country after the government awarded it a licence late last year, says a source familiar with the privately owned company.
Such imports used to be controlled by a state monopoly but this ended two years ago when the Ministry of Commerce opened up the business to private enterprise.
