Market sources say the New York-quoted operator’s domestic shipping unit, Seabulk Tankers, chartered the 50,000-dwt newbuilding to a third party for approximately three years.
They tell TradeWinds that the unit, which is on order at General Dynamics Nassco, is poised to earn between $70,000 and $75,000 per day on average during the firm period of the fixture.
It is widely believed that the newbuilding was chartered to RaceTrac Petroleum, which operates a chain of gasoline stations that are scattered across the southern US.
