Scorpio Tankers is taking a punt on the availability of low-sulphur marine fuel, saying it has no plans to use scrubbers on its 109-owned products tankers.
In an investor presentation, Scorpio says it will comply with the International Maritime Organisation's requirement that ship fuel contain no more than 0.5% sulphur by "burning compliant fuels."
Scorpio's announcement comes amid the ongoing debate about how shipping will comply with the global low sulphur mandate, whether through the use of a low-sulphur marine fuel or the use of an onboard sulphur scrubber.
