Samos Steamship has forged a deal to extend the charter of an aframax to Alaska Tanker Co (ATC) for 18 months as it continues a mixed employment strategy for its ships.
The US tanker owner and operator, whose ships carry BP's US crude volumes, will pay Samos $23,500 per day for the 105,000-dwt Oracle (built 2008).
The charter deal is expected to be profitable at that rate, which is somewhat higher than Howe Robinson's assessment of $21,000 per day for a one-year aframax charter.
