A pirate attack on a Dynacom VLCC has been foiled by the German navy but the perpetrators were released.
The attack was made on the 305,000-dwt Star II (built 1989) in the Gulf of Aden yesterday but warning shots from a German naval helicopter forced the pirates to abandon the attempted hijacking.
The helicopter from the frigate, Koln, saw the pirates discarding objects from their skiff into the Gulf of Aden.
