Venezuelan state oil company PDVSA has carried out the first ship-to-ship (STS) transfer of crude as it tries to reduce a huge queue of tankers.

Reuters cited sources saying the 158,000-dwt suezmax Sonangol Kalandula (built 2011) was the first to benefit from the new system.

It had been waiting since February to load, but is now underway for Tipco Asphalt's refinery in Kemaman, Malaysia.
