Pakistan wants to build VLCCs and ULCCs at a planned new shipyard in Gwadar.
The Nation cited defence ministry sources as saying a scheme has been approved to establish a facility within three to five years.
The yard would also include dry docking facilities for repair of merchant ships, including tankers and gas carriers.
Technical know-how is available in the country, the government believes.
