Tanker orderbooks are low for now, but Concordia Maritime is warning that cash-rich shipowners have a habit of contracting new vessels.

The Stena-controlled product carrier specialist assesses a South Korean MR newbuilding as costing $44m at the end of 2022, up 10% over the year.

But chief executive Erik Lewenhaupt said in a market update: “Shipowners with deep pockets usually tend to order, so watch this space.”
