VLCC rates slipped back to their lowest level since the end of May but brokers say shipowners are working to hold their ground against the summer slump.
The average time-charter equivalent rate dipped to $5,745 per day, down from $8,403 per day this time last week, according to data from the Baltic Exchange.
But tanker owners have been able to prevent a faster slide into seasonal malaise.
