An over-heated cargo of styrene monomer has been blamed for a serious explosion on a Stolt-Nielsen tanker in South Korea.
The blast happened on the 43,000-dwt Stolt Groenland (built 2009) in the port of Ulsan on 28 September, injuring several people.
Flames spread to the adjacent 9,100-dwt Odfjell tanker Bow Dalian (built 2012) before being extinguished.
The UK Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) said in a preliminary report: "The explosions on board Stolt Groenland were probably caused by the rupture of the deck above 9S cargo tank, followed immediately by the ignition of the styrene monomer...
