Private Indian shipowner Mercator is considering dividing its shipping businesses into two separate companies to pursue growth ambitions.

The Mumbai-listed company said directors have started studying the possibility of a demerger by splitting shipping and dredging operations.

This would "facilitate value recovery" and help the entities with their independent expansion plans, it added.

The move would separate its seven dredgers from the mixed fleet of 10 tankers, bulkers, FSOs and an LPG carrier.
