Maersk Tankers has bareboat chartered two VLCCs from South Korean operator Cido.
The vessels are building at Universal Shipbuilding, Ariake.
The 297,000-dwt Pacific Ivory is due to be delivered in November.
The second vessel, as yet unamed, is due to be handed over in December.
Maersk Tankers said that its ships are highly fuel efficient and able to slow steam down to 8.5 knots.
The ships will join three 318,000-dwt tankers, purchased earlier this year from Great Eastern for $105m each.
These three are due for delivery from Hyundai next year.
These five units will take the Maersk Tankers' VLCC fleet to 22.
The average age of the fleet will be brought down to a mere 2.2 years.
The company states that it is favour of scrapping older tonnage.
"We believe it is a need that will not go away; first of all because of the current favourable scrap levels," the company said, "But also because modern tonnage, like our two new VLCCs, is significantly more fuel efficient than vessels built in the '90s."
The company says that the VLCC market is a challenging environment which is set to continue until 2014.
