Gas can be ordered by owners free from any state charges, according to Eckhardt Rehberg, a member of the German parliament responsible for maritime issues.
The move is part of the recently adopted energy and electricity tax act.
LNG is more environmentally friendly as it emits significantly less nitrogen oxide and sulphur compared with the traditionally used heavy oils, Rehberg added.
In addition, Germany wants to act ahead of time as it would have to face a competitive disadvantage if other member states of the European Union introduced tax exemptions on LNG before it did.
