Mitsubishi Corporation of Japan is selling its fleet of four aframax tankers with a Greek owner believed to be closing in on the ships.
Rumours are swirling around a $112m to $115m transaction for the Tsuneishi Zosen and Namura-built ships.
Glyfada-based Ionic Shipping is understood to have tabled the highest bid for the vessels at a lower figure.
It is believed to have bid $110m for the 117,500-dwt Diamond Eternity and Diamond Destiny (built 2011), the 2009 built Diamond Bliss and the 114,000-dwt Diamond Faith (built 2016).
