The threat of piracy far from Somalia’s coast is growing as a new German chemical tanker came under fire off the coast of Tanzania.
The 13,000-dwt Mississippi Star (built 2010) was subjected to a 45-minute armed assault near Dar es Salaam on Tuesday, counter-piracy force EU NAVFOR reported.
Rocket propelled grenades and automatic weapons are said to have been discharged at the Malta-flagged ship which managed to avoid hijacking by taking evasive manoeuvres.
