Fires burn on Greek tanker as fears surround possible oil spill ‘four times the size of the Exxon Valdez disaster’

At least six fires were burning on the Greek tanker Sounion in the Red Sea after Houthi rebels returned to attack the stricken vessel following the rescue of the ship’s crew, according to European Union officials.

Photographs released by the EU naval mission, Aspides, showed five separate fires on the deck of the loaded tanker on Sunday and smoke also rising from the superstructure.
