Europe’s long-term dependency on Russian diesel has risen in 2022 just six months before a full import embargo of its seaborne oil products imports because of the war in Ukraine, said analysts.

Europe’s diesel imports from Russia are 220,000 barrels per day higher than non-Russian sources so far this year, according to energy data analyst Vortexa.

It said Europe’s growing need for diesel to counter surging gas prices raises doubts about whether it will be able to fully introduce its Russian oil products embargo, which is due to come into force on February 5.
