Idan Ofer’s Eastern Pacific Shipping and DS Tankers of Germany are the latest owners to scrap VLCCs, sources say.
Scrap brokers in Europe claim Eastern Pacific has sold its final VLCC, the 299,000-dwt Maritime Jewel (built 2000).
They suggest the tanker has fetched $438 per ldt or $18m. The company did not respond to requests for comments.
The DSME built tanker, which is due for special survey in May next year, was purchased from Euronav for $32m in 2003.
