Time is running out for the Worldscale Association to decide how it will price bunker fuels for its tanker freight rates next year.
Get it wrong and tanker owners could make huge losses with predictions for average fuel costs potentially being massively skewed by the switch to low-sulphur fuels in 2020.
Worldscale has been monitoring and discussing the situation this year but, having earlier decided to base its bunker costs on IMO 2020 compliant-fuels, complains there has been little availability of very low-sulphur fuel (VLSFO) before September, let alone real evidence of what price it is fetching or will reach.
