The European Union’s looming ban on marine services for Russian tanker trades has raised fears of an oil spill in the narrow Danish straits because of a legal wrangle over the use of pilots.
Denmark supplies pilots for virtually all the tankers through the shallow and treacherous waters between Denmark and Sweden but the service is threatened by the EU’s broad sanctions on oil imports from 5 December, according to reports.
