An order freezing $40m of assets pending a trial into alleged chartering fraud at Latvian Shipping has been extended by a London high court judge.

Justice Burton also agreed that the corporate veil shielding ownership of five offshore companies involved in the alleged fraud could be pierced.

A series of 30 single ship companies controlled by Latvian Shipping are claiming there was large scale dishonesty and corruption aimed at diverting profit on ship chartering deals to wealthy Latvian businessman Oleg Stepanovs and other defendants.

London's high court is the venue for the dispute.
