A suezmax idling under arrest for the past 20 months has been auctioned in South Africa at an extremely low price, likely reflecting a lack of available buyers amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The 156,700-dwt Advantage Sky (built 2010) was sold in Durban last week for $18.8m, auctioneer Ariella Kuper confirmed to TradeWinds.
Kuper declined to reveal the buyer.
Some brokers reported the ship’s previous owner, Turkish-controlled Advantage Tankers, took back control of the vessel, having submitted the only bid in the auction that was carried out online due to a Covid-19 lockdown in South Africa.
