A German LPG vessel came close to being hijacked on Tuesday after being boarded by pirates off Tanzania.
Quick-thinking crew foiled the attempted seizure of the 4,360-cbm Maido (built 1999), however, by locking themselves in a secure compartment or ‘citadel’.
The raid on the France-flagged tanker, owned by Hartmann Schiffahrts, follows the recent hijacking of a Greek LPG carrier in the same general region this month.
