Giant Chinese state shipowner China Cosco Shipping has reacted strongly to being classified as a Chinese military company by the US government.
The shipowner appeared on a list drawn up by the Defense Department featuring firms with alleged links to the Chinese army.
This is aimed at discouraging US companies from conducting business with the listed entities but is not a sanction in itself.
