Chilean Maritime Co (CMC) has doubled its fleet with the purchase of two medium-range (MR) vessels from Scorpio Tankers.
CMC (formerly CCNI) bought the 50,000-dwt STI Emerald and STI Sapphire (both built 2013) in a $56.4m transaction.
Tanker market sources say the duo has been purchased after the owner secured long-term employment for the ships with Chilean state-backed oil company Empresa Nacional de Petroleo.
