Medcare Shipping says the state-controlled oil and gas conglomerate hasn’t coughed up cash to cover interest on a claim that stems from outstanding hire and other costs tied to charter involving the 40,100-dwt chemical carrier Libera (built 2006).
According to documents filed in the Southern District of New York, the Athens-based bulker and tanker owner fixed the vessel to PDVSA in April 2009 at a rate of $17,500 per day in a contract that also held the South American counterparty accountable for additional war risk premiums.
