New York-listed Euronav picked up the first four vessels in the series at $96m each today, below the $98m market sources had placed on the deal last week.

The shipowner, which has now bought 23 VLCCs since the start of 2014, also has options on the final four Metrostar ships at $98m each.

Euronav has secured tankers which have attracted the attention of many suitors and for which a bid of around $102m per vessel is understood to have been rejected previously.
