Despite predictions of more crude tankers ending up at ship-breaking facilities this year, shipowners are choosing to sell ships for further trading in buoyant sale-and-purchase markets.
This is according to Bimco's Peter Sand, who believes the secondhand market is stalling recycling.
"Very few crude oil tankers have been sent for demolition so far this year," said the chief shipping analyst at the shipowners' organisation.
