Bimco says China's thirst for crude oil has generated enough demand for 45 more VLCCs this year. Moreover, longer distances between the country and its suppliers are generating more tonne-mile demand.
But the 50-odd new VLCCs on the water this year means "the market is already awash with tonnage and therefore supply still outstrips demand," says Bimco chief analyst Peter Sand.
