Greek shipowner Athenian Sea Carriers has joined the growing crush for VLCC tonnage at shipyards.
TradeWinds understands that the Kyriakou family-controlled tanker company has inked a letter of intent (LOI) for two VLCCs with Hyundai Heavy Industries in South Korea. The deal includes options for two more vessels.
Shipbuilding sources said Athenian is opting for conventional-fuelled crude tankers and is looking to take delivery of the firm vessels at the end of 2022.
