Angus Frew hopes to remain in shipping in some capacity when he leaves his role as Bimco secretary general and CEO next summer.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Denmark-based organisation announced Frew's intention to step down after six years in the job currently.
The hunt for a successor has now started.
Frew told TradeWinds: "When you leave a role like this you have to give the organisation plenty of time to find a replacement.
