Clarksons Research has calculated that profit for aframaxes has beaten that of capesize bulkers since the pandemic began in January 2020.
But panamax boxships have outstripped both those vessel types as rates rocketed.
Trevor Crowe, an analyst for the research unit of shipbroking giant Clarksons, said Covid-19 had created some huge challenges for the shipping industry, but owners have also enjoyed an "impressive rebound and notable disruption upside" in many cases.
