Newbuilding pricing is an issue for major liner operator Hapag-Lloyd but it is not stopping the company’s moves to renew its fleet.
Hapag-Lloyd CEO Rolf Habben Jansen told the TradeWinds Shipowners Forum Germany 2024 that the capital expenditure needed for a newbuilding slot is 30% to 40% more today than it was five to seven years ago.
“I think price is a problem,” he said.
