Eastern Pacific Shipping is collaborating with South Korea’s DongHwa Entec (DHE) to develop a high-pressure compressor designed to cut methane emissions and optimise energy use.

The compressor will be installed on one of Eastern Pacific’s LNG dual-fuelled 18,000-teu container ship newbuildings, under construction at New Times Shipbuilding.

The Singapore-based shipping company said the initiative marks a “significant advancement in LNG fuel gas supply systems”, reinforcing both companies’ commitment to sustainability and technological innovation.

“As part of EPS’ commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, this collaboration optimises the utilisation of boil-off gas to enhance fuel efficiency and, in return, significantly reducing environmental impact,” said the shipping company.

“With the high-pressure compressor, the vessel will be able to channel boil-off gas directly into the main engine, minimising emissions and maximising fuel efficiency, a major leap forward in decarbonising shipping operations.”

DHE said the project with Eastern Pacific represents a “major milestone” in advancing LNG fuel technology.

DHE specialises in gas fuel supply systems, cargo-handling systems and advanced gaseous process solutions.

DHE’s affiliate, DongHwa Pneutec, primarily manufactures low-pressure compressors but is now expanding into high-pressure compressor production.

DongHwa Pneutec will be involved in Eastern Pacific-DHE’s project.

“This collaboration underscores EPS and DHE’s shared vision for a greener maritime industry, driving innovation, efficiency and environmental responsibility,” said Eastern Pacific.

“By advancing LNG fuel technologies, both companies will stay committed to pushing the boundaries of sustainable shipping.”(Copyright)
