Clarksons Research says further newbuilding price rises are likely this year after jumps of 14% for VLCCs and 26% for capesizes already.
But the research arm of shipbroker Clarksons raised the question of whether more increases in the cost of new vessels will curb owners' recent enthusiasm for fresh tonnage.
Analyst Alex Springer said newbuilding prices have risen "notably" since late 2020.
