Finnish operator Viking Lines has the drawings ready for a new eco-friendly cruise ferry, according to a Swedish press report.
The LNG-powered newbuilding is slated to replace the existing 34,384-gt Amorella (built 1988) on the Turku (Abo)-Stockholm route, where the Mariehamn-based company has increased its market share and needs more passenger and vehicle capacity to satisfy demand.
Chief executive Jan Hanses, who has earlier said the Nasdaq Helsinki-listed company would focus on upgrading existing vessels, told InsiderPlus that the new ship will be slightly bigger than the LNG-powered, 57,565-gt Viking Grace (built 2013) but this time a single LNG tank will be located inside the vessel.
