Shipyards in South Korea are having to turn to Chinese and Japanese mills for steel plate after a flood and a strike hit domestic production.
Industry sources said there is a short supply of stainless steel and standard steel plate in the shipbuilding sector due to a strike at Hyundai Steel and the shutdown of Posco and Hyundai Steel’s flooded steel plants at Pohang.
