The UK's new polar research ship received a royal baptism on Thursday at Merseyside shipyard Cammell Laird.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge did the naming honours by smashing the traditional bottle of bubbly against the hull of the vessel, which has been called Sir David Attenborough after the famous broadcaster and naturalist.
The ceremony was part of a three-day public celebration aimed at informing people about polar science, engineering and technology.
