Evangelos Marinakis’ Capital Maritime & Trading Corp has reserved berth slots for up to eight VLCC newbuildings worth more than $650m in total at Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI), which helps to cement the shipbuilder’s return to the sector.
Tanker market sources say Marinakis has signed a letter of intent (LOI) with SHI for four firm Tier III VLCCs and is in "advanced discussions" with the yard on the ships.
