South Korea has earmarked a KRW 400bn ($360.4m) budget to equip its shipyards with artificial intelligence (AI) technology.

It wants to secure the cost competitiveness of the small and medium-sized yard sector and win back market share.

Business Korea cited the ministry of trade, industry and energy as saying the government will begin a preliminary feasibility study of the Korean Smart Shipyard (K-Yard) project this year.
