Japan’s largest shipbuilder, Imabari Shipbuilding, has suffered a major recruitment blow after being barred from hiring overseas trainees due to safety violations.
Domestic news outlets say Japan’s immigration authorities announced a five-year ban and removed the yard’s certification for its foreign intern programmes.
The recruitment ban poses a big problem as the shipbuilding giant has been employing foreign labour to meet the shortfall in local workers.
